Huawei to drop the Ascend moniker from its future devices

Huawei Logo

Chinese manufacturer Huawei sells its devices in a large number of countries, including the U.S. The company’s smartphones are known by the popular ‘Ascend‘ moniker. However, it seems like the company wants to start afresh with its smartphones as it has reportedly decided to ditch the Ascend branding from its handsets. This should effectively make the Ascend Mate 2 the last device to sport the branding.

So what will future Huawei smartphones be known as? Well, it is believed that the company will keep things simple and just use the model number, which would mean that the Ascend Mate 2 would transform into something like the Huawei Mate 2.

This is a massive transition for the company as most markets associate the Ascend branding with Huawei’s smartphones. It is likely that Huawei will start off the naming convention with its upcoming range of smartphones which are set to be unveiled at the MWC event in March.

Top on the list of handsets is the Ascend P8 (or the Huawei P8), which is expected to be packing a 5.2 inch display and the company’s Kirin 930 octa core SoC. The device will reportedly be razor thin with a body made of metal, so it’s certainly something to look out for.
