One of the first Android TV devices to be shown off was made by Razer. Although no details were provided on this device back then, Razer has just made the device official at the CES earlier today. Known as the Razer Forge TV, this device brings Android TV functionality on the cheap. As of now, only the Nexus Player offers Android TV to users, so the arrival of Razer’s dedicated console will be a welcome addition in the market.
In addition to downloading and playing games from the Play Store, the Razer Forge is also capable of streaming games from your Windows computer over WiFi. The Razer Forge TV will go on sale in Q1 2015 with a price tag of $99.99 with a wireless controller called the Razer Serval being offered for an additional $149.99. A keyboard and mouse combo called the Razer Turret will be sold for $129.99.
The device features a 2.5 GHz quad core Snapdragon 805 SoC, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. So it’s pretty capable as far as hardware features are concerned. Razer is a well known brand in the gaming community and the company will hope to leverage that demand with the the launch of a dedicated Android TV console.
