VAIO Android handset could launch during CES 2015

VAIO Corporation

According to a new report from Nikkei, VAIO Corporation could launch a new smartphone at next week’s CES 2015 event in Las Vegas. This smartphone will be reportedly powered by Android and an app that can “manage email as well as phone and video calls all together.”

All hints point that this is a midrange device possibly with exclusivity limited for Japanese markets. With Sony selling off its stakes in VAIO, it is now an independently functioning company. The VAIO PC business has partially shut down following the sale by Sony, so this could be an ideal opportunity for VAIO to make a come back.

As for the device itself, it is said that the smartphone will be packing a 5 inch display, further indicating that this could be a midrange device. Other hardware details about the smartphone are not known, but we won’t be surprised to find midrange hardware on board the device.
