Sony Xperia Z2 and Z3 series to get Android 5.0 update in early 2015

Sony Xperia Z3

Sony has just confirmed to its fans that the Android 5.0 update for its Xperia Z2 and the Z3 series of smartphones/tablets will begin rolling out in early 2015. The comment was made in response to a user query on Twitter, although Sony is yet to share information on which devices are first to get the update.

Sony specifies that “core” devices in the aforementioned device lineup will get the update first, which could mean that the likes of the Xperia M2, T2 etc will probably have to wait slightly longer to see the update on their smartphones. As it stands, Sony is letting users flash AOSP software versions on their smartphone, so the company’s commitment to updating its devices is well known.

The timing of the update rollout might be a little off and could take even longer for the Xperia Z3V on Verizon. Most manufacturers like Samsung, LG and even HTC are expected to conclude the Android 5.0 update process by January.

Do you own a Xperia Z2 or a Z3? What do you make of this news?
