WhatsApp is long expected to introduce a native voice calling feature option to its mobile apps. These calls will be done over VoIP and will directly take on services like Skype and Viber. Today, we’re getting our very first look of this particular feature, courtesy of a few leaked screenshots. These screenshots were taken from an Android device and appear to be a mix of the stock Android dialer and Hangouts Dialer to some extent.
This is not necessarily a bad thing as familiarity is always good with apps like these. WhatsApp has a massive user base in regions of Asia, which led to its acquisition by Facebook. It has certainly come a long way after that and this is perhaps one of the biggest steps it has taken since then. WhatsApp founder Jan Koum has said that the feature will arrive on devices in Q1 2015, so we still have some waiting to do.
