Motorola has officially begun the Android 5.0.1 rollout for the 2013 Google Play Edition Moto G. The handset has been available through the Play Store since early this year and is one of the first Motorola devices (along with the Moto X and the 2014 Moto G) to get the update. As far as the changes are concerned, it seems like the Moto G is seeing some performance related upgrades with the new update.
Android Authority reports that the smartphone has seen an increase in CPU benchmark performance post the update, bringing the total score to 18694 up from 17049 as seen on Android 4.4.4 KitKat. So users should see a significant improvement in performance, in addition to the visual changes. Customers can also expect to see a complete Material Design overhaul throughout the UI. The update has already started rolling out, so you should have it running on your device by the end of the week.
