Galaxy S5 was the second most searched smartphone in 2014, Nexus 6 third

Sprint Galaxy S5

The Samsung Galaxy S5 was the talk of the town when it broke cover in April this year. However, demand for the smartphone dimmed down a bit as we moved onto the second half of 2014. This is also when the Apple iPhone 6 was announced, causing ripples across the internet for being the first large sized iPhone after late Apple founder Steve Jobs comically likened big phones to “Hummers” some years ago.

And it seems like the big iPhone concept clicked with the public as it was apparently the most searched smartphone on Google in 2014. There was also enough controversy about the new iPhones, which might have been a factor in its mass popularity. Any publicity is good publicity, right? So which smartphone came in at second? Well, no marks for guessing but it was Samsung’s Galaxy S5, which was always expected to be neck and neck with Apple’s flagships.

2014 Smartphone trends - Samsung

There was a surprise third place entry though in the form of the Motorola Nexus 6, which was Google’s latest Nexus device. The Moto G, Galaxy Note 4 and the LG G3 took the fourth, fifth and sixth spots respectively. Are you surprised with any of these additions?
