S4 Spotify not working and cannot be uninstalled

Problem: Hello. I recently received a replacement Galaxy S4. On both my replacement as well as my original phone, Spotify has suddenly stopped working and will not allow me to use it. It says Spotify has suddenly stopped and it won’t even let me uninstall it. Is there any solution for this? — Alyssa Sacco

Troubleshooting: Hi Alyssa. We did some digging on this issue around the net but it seems Spotify app is a pretty stable app with relatively little to no reported crashes at all if we consider millions of Androids using it around the world. It appears that your issue may be unique to your phone, especially that you are also having trouble uninstalling it. As a third party app, Spotify should be easily uninstalled through usual means.

We suggest that you try all the methods of uninstalling an app below so you’ll know if a newly installed Spotify app (after you uninstall it) will be working fine. Below are the different ways to uninstall an app.

  • Uninstall the app using Application Manager. To go to Application Manager, pull up Settings, tap on More tab, and then select it. There are four tabs under Application Manager so just go over each one and look for Spotify. Try tapping on Clear Data and Clear Cache buttons prior to uninstalling it.
  • Uninstall the app using TouchWiz UI. Simply open the App Drawer, tap Menu, tap Edit, then hold and drag Spotify app to the Uninstall image at the top right.
  • Uninstall the app using Other application manager apps. This option depends on your preference as there are many application manager apps in Google Play Store.


  • Uninstall the app using ADB. This is the more advanced way to remove annoying and problematic apps. ADB stands for Android Debug Bridge. You must use a computer to remove apps through ADB as well as know the app’s package name. If you don’t know Spotify’s package name, just type “adb shell pm list packages” (without the quotation marks) in your computer’s command prompt, also known as terminal, to get a list of all installed apps on your phone. Once you have identified the package name, type “adb uninstall packagename” (without the quotation marks and where packagename is Spotify’s package name)

We hope that any of these steps can uninstall Spotify so you can re-install it.


S4 Battery drains faster

Problem: Hi. I just saw your article through Dripped so I thought I’d give you a try. My S4 has an issue where the phone gets rather warm and the battery life drops off rather quickly. I try restarting the phone and pulling the battery, but it seems to be happening more often. Any suggestions? — Fred Lombardo

Troubleshooting: Hi Fred. It’s interesting to note that smartphones have developed so fast in the past few years that the fastest and most powerful ones right now can already equal the computing capacity of low end desktops but that the battery technology has not really improved substantially at all.

The smartphones today still suffers from poor battery life as battery design has not really changed significantly. The technology that gives a powerful smartphone its life has not improved. Luckily for us, there are some tweaks that we can do to extend the juice of your battery longer. However, be warned  that these steps don’t come at a cost.

S4 Overheats when playing games

Problem: I bought my Samsung Galaxy S4 made in Vietnam about 3 days ago. The phone overheats even if I’m only browsing or playing games for 4 to 5 minutes. I am now upset with this problem. This is not the experience I anticipate before buying this phone. Please help me. — Riasad Khan

Troubleshooting: Hi Riasad. When you say your S4 overheats, we are assuming that it shuts down by itself as this is a feature on this phone to prevent further damage. Does the phone just get too uncomfortably warm to touch?

Five minutes of intensive gaming on an S4 is too short a time for it to overheat. If you have not used the phone for other activities like watching videos or browsing prior to gaming for 5 minutes, then it’s safe to say that you either have a battery problem or a phone issue in your hand.

We recommend that you try to turn off all extra features on your phone before playing. If you have Smart Stay and Air Gesture enabled, it’s best if you can toggle them off to keep your phone from demanding more power from your battery.

 S4 getting error “Unfortunately, the process android.process.acore has stopped”

Problem: Hello. I have a problem with my Samsung S4 which keeps giving me an error message “Unfortunately, the process android.process.acore has stopped”. When I try to look up contacts, the phone is very slow and eventually shows up this message. I would appreciate your help. — Akin Semowo


Troubleshooting: Hi Akin. We tried to do some research on what this error means but we can’t pinpoint its cause. We think that your phone has a corrupted operating system. The best way to resolve this is by resetting it to its factory defaults to ensure that only the most basic apps are running. However, this procedure will also delete everything on your phone including your personal data on the internal storage like downloaded content, ringtones, images, apps, and contacts.  We recommend that you make a copy of all your files before doing it.

Just follow these steps to wipe your phone clean and restore it to its former glory:


  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap the Accounts tab.
  4. Tap Backup and reset.
  5. If desired, tap Automatic restore to clear the check box.
  6. If desired, tap Back up my data to clear the check box.
  7. Tap Factory data reset.
  8. Tap Reset device.
  9. If you have screen lock turned on, enter your PIN or password. Tap Continue.
  10. Tap Delete all.


Alternatively, you can also do a hard reset by using the buttons on your phone.


  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time:
    • Volume Up key
    • Home key
    • Power key.
  3. When the phone vibrates, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
  4. When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
  5. Press the Volume down key to highlight wipe data / factory reset.
  6. Press Power button to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key to highlight delete all user data.
  8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  9. When the master reset is complete, Reboot system now should be highlighted.
  10. Press the Power key to turn the restart the device.




S4 not detecting SIM card

Problem: Recently, my S4 has been overheating quite a bit and saying SIM card is not detected.  I have deleted a lot of apps but nothing has helped.  I don’t know much about phones. I’m just wondering what i can do to fix it at home instead of having to take it into AT&T. Thanks. —Lacey Thomas


Troubleshooting: Hi Lacey. Rarely do we encounter an S4 overheating and not detecting the SIM simultaneously. The two issues normally don’t go together as one cannot cause the other and vice versa. It’s may be a coincidence that your phone shows these two symptoms right now although the root cause is hardware failure. We will try to deal with each issue separately as we cannot see the connection between them right now.

Don’t worry as you’re not the first person to report about an S4 getting warm to touch or even hot sometimes. Overheating is usually a product of one or a few factors happening all at once in a phone. Some people have reported overheating only when watching certain videos or playing certain games only, while others said its happening even when browsing the web. Random apps can also cause the phone to overheat. Some of the most common causes for overheating are environmental factors like hot weather, direct exposure to sunlight or heat. For some rare cases, ventilation can also play a part.

To resolve overheating, you can try some of the solutions below.

  1. Update the software. A simple update may fix overheating. Try checking with your provider if your phone already runs the latest operating system. Providers usually know when they release operating system update for their units so it’s best to ask them about all things update.
  2. Update your apps. Rogue apps can cause your phone to overheat. Open Google Play Store, tap Menu, then go to My Apps and see if there are apps needing an update.
  3. Remove/replace your MicroSD card. A corrupted SD card can cause backlogs and demand unnecessary processes from the phone’s CPU so removing your SD card or replacing what you have may resolve overheating.
  4. Get a replacement unit. If any of these steps won’t resolve your issue, contact AT&T and ask for replacement. There is no better way to fix overheating than getting a new unit. However, we suggest that you create a copy of all your files first before handing your defective phone to your provider.

For the SIM card issue, you can try the steps below.


  1. Check if SIM card is properly inserted. Turn off the phone and check if the SIM card is inserted and if it fits snugly in the slot.
  2. Clean the SIM card. Take out the SIM card and clean it with a clean soft cloth. If you can see smudges or grime, make sure you remove them before re-inserting the SIM card.
  3. Test another SIM card. This step will help you isolate if the issue lies on the phone or on the SIM card itself. If a family member uses the same SIM card from the same provider, try swapping your SIM card and observe how your phone handles it for a couple of hours.
  4. Get a replacement. If all else fails after you have isolated the issue, get a replacement of either the phone or SIM card.






S4 No data issue

Problem: Where do I start? I am using the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom and for the last 2 months had no data services even though I am still paying for it. Had a new phone sent to me with no improvement. New SIM card. New updates. AT&T will not help because they said the problem is with Samsung’s programming in their software and that Samsung knows about it but not sure when it will be resolved. So I call Samsung customer service and get somebody that sounds like they’re from a different planet and has no answers but would gladly take my phone for repair for 5 to 231 days with no loner. How do I go about getting some answers? And reimbursement for the data I was paying for but not getting. Thanks for any information. — Matt


Troubleshooting: Hi Matt. Looks like you’re in deep trouble. We wish we can help you.

If a phone replacement had already been sent to you, the problem, most likely resides with Samsung. Have you tried contacting someone from Samsung with actual authority over the matter?

We are not 100% sure if emailing Samsung’s CEO works wonders but I think it’s worth trying. We’ve known some CEOs of big companies in the past like Steve Jobs of Apple, Steve Ballmer of Microsoft, among others, take some time reading emails sent directly by their customers. Why not try doing the same tactic with Samsung. After all, it appears that your case is not getting anywhere at this time.

S4 keeps on rebooting and apps crashing

Problem: Hi guys. I’m having trouble with my Samsung Galaxy S4 (18m old) constantly rebooting almost anytime I do anything. I also get a lot of “unfortunately x has stopped” messages for multiple apps. I’ve read the articles you’ve had on simple ways to try and fix the problem but so far no luck. I’ve replaced the battery, cleared the caches etc. and finally done a factory reset. It reset itself within 5 minutes of having a factory reset. I then booted it into safe mode and it lasted an hour but as soon as I turned it off it started again. I’m not sure where to go from this point- this has obviously ruled out third party apps, so could it be a pre-installed one causing issues?

Troubleshooting: Hi Kelly. If you have tried all the available troubleshooting from our site including a factory reset, we are afraid that you have a hardware issue in your hand. Let a professional technician check your phone or have the phone replaced. As a user, you can only do so much and the issue that you have appears to demand more than the resolution we provide.

S4 crashes after updating to KitKat 4.4.3

Problem: Dear DroidGuy. After enjoying continued stable operation of my s4 and laughing at apple users ongoing problems, I find myself frustrated by repeated crashes of my S4 after updating android to 4.4.3.

Yesterday is locked up after a couple of missed calls and I could not enter my password to unlock the phone. After a restart I lost my background picture.

Then again today the phone locked up after sitting idle for a few hours it did not let me type my password in to unlock the phone.

Since upgrading android a day or two ago, the phone has crashed about 5 times and lost my background picture. Also the keyboard does not seem to recognize the keys I type nearly as well and gets the case wrong – see i is lower case.

Are you able to recommend anything to me to resolve these continued issues. Regards. — Hans


Troubleshooting: Hello Hans. We tried to do a little research about the issues resulting from KitKat 4.4.3 update but it looks like your problem may be isolated to your phone only.

If you did not install any other apps after updating your phone, then we can assume that you may have downloaded a corrupted system update package. Unfortunately, the only to go back to a more stable operating system version would be to reset the phone to its factory defaults. This means that you will lose all your downloaded apps as well as your phone customizations. On top of that, you also need to make a copy of all your important files.

Downgrading your Android version to default is the only solution we can think of at this point.

Or, you can wait for the new Lollipop 5.0 version but its availability for download greatly depends on your provider. You may want to call them to check if they can help you update your phone as Lollipop was released on November 3.




S4 stolen so where to go to access cloud

Problem: Hey, great, great, great post! ( Thank you so much for sharing that information, because I don’t even remember allowing my phone to back up my data, but it did it anyway (I know, because it always said it in my notifications)! I have been searching and asking for several days now where Samsung Galaxy S4 backs up all of your data among others to.

I finally have an answer, but am not sure which Cloud website to go to in order to find all of my … everything!

I had my phone stolen on Friday night, and have some really important things on that phone, and just really need to check Cloud and see if it’s put it on there. Which website do I use, what kind of log in will it ask me for? And please, dear God, please don’t let it ask for my mobile number then ‘send me a text’ that I have to type into the website to access it.

If you know the answer to my dilemma, as I am ever so technologically illiterate, please, please, please help me!!!

Troubleshooting: Hi Nakita. We apologized for being a bit vague on how exactly to access the cloud in our previous post. That post was meant to make it easier for folks who sign up for a Google account when they activate their Android phone for the first time. The “cloud” that we were referring to in that post are the servers of Google that keep a copy of your data. To access Google servers, what you need to do is to pull up a browser in your computer and sign in to your Gmail account by going to Once you’re signed in, you want to click your Google+ icon so you can click on “View Profile” option; this allows you to access your Google+ account. This is useful if you want to check the photos your phone had uploaded before. Just hover the mouse cursor on “Profile” on the upper left side of the page, then once a dropdown appears, you can click on “Photos”.

If you some documents to recover, simply open another tab on your browser and go to This allows you to access whatever documents your phone uploaded to Google servers.




S4 lost connection to wireless networks after some time

Problem: Hi TDG. Two months ago I bought my S4 and it worked great, but for the last 3 weeks my mobile keeps resetting my Wi-Fi connections. When i connect to one it works for like one or two weeks and then all my Wi-Fi connections are gone and I need to connect it again. Please help me! — Dutch Boy


Troubleshooting: Hi Dutch Boy. The only reason we can think why this is happening is most probably the changes on the wireless connections you are trying to connect to. Your Samsung Galaxy S4 will normally remember all the Wi-Fi networks it was able to connect to in the past so every time it encounters one of them again, it will automatically connect to it without demanding for your attention. If that is not happening, there is big possibility that the settings or passwords of the Wi-Fi networks themselves have been changed after some time. This means that while your phone will still detect these same networks again, it will ask you now whether you want to connect and enter the passkey.
