After years of being the last among major manufacturers to update its devices to the latest version of Android, LG surprised everyone by announcing that the LG G3 would be updated to Android 5.0 Lollipop soon after Google made the new version official and released it for Nexus devices. Well, it looks like LG is keeping to its word, as the LG G3 is set to receive the Lollipop update in South Korea as soon as this week.
This is no doubt bad news for Samsung, which is testing Lollipop for many devices but hasn’t given any official word for any phone or tablet, with not even the Galaxy Note 4 expected to get the update any time soon even in South Korea. According to LG, all three major carriers – LG U+, SK Telecom and KT – in South Korea will get the update at the same time, and that the company is aiming to complete the rollout for every region by the end of this year. Naturally, carrier and other delays will mean some consumers could be waiting for the update until the next year, but it’s certainly great to see taking software updates so seriously.
