Android 5.0 factory image now available for the 2012 Nexus 7

Nexus 7 2012

The 2012 Nexus 7 is still under Google’s support cycle despite being over two years old in the market. And now, Google has published the Android 5.0 factory image for the device, allowing users to tinker around with it to and build a custom ROM. It appears like Google has let the factory image slip accidentally, but that’s immaterial now as it is most likely the final version of Android 5.0 which will eventually make its way to the tablet through an OTA update.

Google is yet to update other Nexus devices with Android 5.0, but it has been said that WiFi tablets will be the first to receive the update, so this is consistent with those reports. With the Nexus 9 already arriving on customers’ doorsteps and the Nexus 6 ready to hit the markets any time now, we can expect Android 5.0 sightings to increase in frequency.

If this factory image is any indication, Google should start rolling out the official OTA update to the 2012 WiFi Nexus 7 over the coming weeks. Head over to the link below to download the Android 5.0 factory image for your 2012 Nexus 7 and let us know what you think.
