After months of leaks and speculation, Samsung’s big unveiling of the Galaxy Note 4 has finally been made. The smartphone is everything we expected it to be, thanks to the continuous flow of leaks. Samsung also made a surprise announcement of the Galaxy Note 4 Edge, which has a folded display like we’ve seen on the company’s YOUM concepts in the past. This device will undoubtedly take most of the media attention in the days to come. Apart from the display, everything else is pretty identical between the two smartphones.

The Galaxy Note 4 packs a 5.7 inch Quad HD 2.5D display which comes with a slight curve to make it easier to swipe between edges. The Galaxy Note Edge sports a 5.6 inch display with a resolution of 2560 x 1600 to account for the extra screen real estate on the right edge of the device.

The smartphones will be available in Snapdragon 805 (LTE Cat. 6) and Exynos 5433 (LTE Cat. 4) variants. Other features include 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage with microSD expansion, a 16-megapixel OIS camera, Android 4.4.4 KitKat and a 3,220 mAh battery. The Note Edge has a 3,000 mAh battery underneath with the placement of the USB slot changed as well. Unfortunately, both smartphones lack water resistance.

The Galaxy Note Edge

It’s hard to tell apart the Galaxy Note 4 from the predecessor at first glance, which is not a surprise considering what we’ve seen from the company in the past. The Note Edge however is far more unique in its approach and even offers an easily accessible set of icons on the edge which is visible at all times. Both devices have the upgraded version of S-Pen and the new TouchWiz tailored to work with it, while there are some new features as well.

The Galaxy Note 4 is expected to be available through all four major carriers in the U.S. as well as several world markets for an undisclosed amount starting October. The company is yet to share availability details of the Galaxy Note Edge. Customers can get the Galaxy Note 4 in Frost White, Bronze Gold, Charcoal Black and Blossom Pink color variants.
