HTC started sending out invites for a photography centered event on October 8. And while our first guess was the Nexus 9 tablet, a new revelation is telling us that it could be for a Bluetooth powered camera accessory which can be attached to smartphones as lenses. So basically, this is HTC’s version of the Sony QX smart lenses. However, it is said that this camera accessory will be water proof in nature, which makes it a competitor to the range of GoPro cameras.
The lens will reportedly have a 16-megapixel sensor with a wide angle lens, so the focus could be more towards photography and not exactly videos. But we wouldn’t put it past HTC to not pay attention to the video recording aspect of the camera.
The Sony QX series smart lenses have seen moderate success in the market, thanks to their utility as a point and shoot replacement. Whether HTC can replicate that with its new offering is only for time to tell. Other details are pretty scarce at the moment, but we’ll know more in a few weeks when the company holds its ‘Double Exposure’ event.
What do you think about a camera accessory from HTC such as this? Sound off below.
