Samsung Galaxy S5 becomes the first handset to take the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

Samsung Galaxy S5

Samsung’s Galaxy S5 is known for a lot of things, including the dimpled back and for the first time in the series, a water and dust resistant body. And given the worldwide phenomenon of celebrities taking the ice bucket challenge to raise awareness for ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), it was only fitting for the smartphone to take the test. Samsung UK has uploaded a video showing this feat and the company has now nominated the iPhone 5s, the Nokia Lumia 930 and the HTC One M8 to take the Ice Bucket Challenge.

While this was previously limited to only individuals of the tech industry (including the founders of Google, CEO of Apple, Amazon, Microsoft, Facebook etc), this is the first time a smartphone has taken the challenge, giving Samsung some precious PR material to take shots at rival manufacturers. It will be interesting to see if HTC, Nokia or Apple will respond to Samsung’s challenge, but as long as the actual cause isn’t forgotten, we don’t mind some casual banter amongst rival manufacturers.
