Google to directly issue updates to all Android Wear smartwatches

Android Wear

Google has officially confirmed that it will be directly responsible for the rolling out of all Android Wear related updates. This means that manufacturers won’t have to worry about posting updates and Google can maintain uniformity in the rollout of the updates. In rough terms, this means that almost every Android Wear smartwatch will get major firmware updates simultaneously.

So if you own either of the current crop of Android Wear smartwatches or are waiting for the Moto 360 or the low cost ASUS wearable, the update rollout time should be the same. This is similar to how Google handles updates for the GPE smartphones, which is good news for the customers.

Manufacturers are expected to launch plenty more smartwatches later this year, although only two devices are available for purchase at the moment.

Have you planned to purchase an Android Wear smartwatch anytime soon? And does this news have any bearing on your decision making?
