Sprint has scheduled a new event for the 19th of August, with the invite saying nothing but “take the edge off“. While it’s hard to decipher anything from that, the emphasis on the word “Edge” suggests that this could be something in competition to the Verizon Edge program.
The carrier could also have a new device on the cards, with the most likely candidate being a follow up to the Kyocera Hydro Edge which broke cover at around the same time last year. These midrange water resistant offerings from Kyocera have a decent following, so it’s understandable that the carrier would launch a successor this year.
It’s hard to speculate as to what exactly could be shown off on August 19th, so it seems like we’ll have to wait until next month to get more information. Given the sort of pressure the carriers are under after T-Mobile’s immensely popular customer friendly promotions, it would seem logical that Sprint would have something up its sleeves to combat that. However, the two carriers have been in talks for a merger, which has apparently been stalled at the moment.
