Sony Xperia Z1 getting Android 4.4.4 update on Rogers

The Xperia Z2 might be Sony’s current flagship, but the Japanese manufacturer has mostly ignored it when it comes to updates to Android 4.4.4, instead choosing to update the Xperia Z1 and Z1 Compact instead. Android 4.4.4 started rolling out to the unlocked version of the Xperia Z1 last month, and now the update is making its way to the Z1 on Rogers’ network in Canada.

The update is currently going out over the air, and brings features like a simple home launcher from the Xperia Z2, a newer version of the standard Xperia Home launcher, a TV Sideview app (possibly a regional app), and improvements for stability and performance. It should also feature all the bug fixes introduced in Android 4.4.3 and 4.4.4 by Google, including a security flaw related to the infamous Heartbleed OpenSSL bug.

Expect the update to arrive on your handset sometime in the next week or so, or head into the Update Center app on the phone to force it to show up right away.
