The rumored Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini has just gone official earlier today packing most of the hardware that we expected. At first glance, it’s immediately obvious that Samsung has decided to make it look quite similar to the Galaxy S5. The feature set is pretty identical too, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
The internal hardware is midrange at best, but that’s not completely unexpected from a mini device. The display on board is 4.5 inches in size (AMOLED) with a resolution of 1280 x 720, which is certainly an upgrade over the predecessor. The device also features an 8-megapixel camera on the back and a 2.1-megapixel front camera for selfies. The processor on board is a quad core 1.4 GHz unit, with the exact make not specified.
The Galaxy S5 Mini is water and dust resistant like the Galaxy S5 with IP67 certification, so nothing’s different in that regard. Other specs include 1.5GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage with a microSD card slot, a 2,100 mAh battery and Android 4.4.2 KitKat with the standard TouchWiz features like Ultra Power Savings Mode, Private Mode and Kids Mode.
Pricing is expected to be €479 ($656) which is quite a lot for a mini device, but we can expect that to come down substantially in the coming months. The smartphone should be available across the world in the coming weeks with a mid-July launch expected.
