Samsung claims disfiguration of the Galaxy Tab S not related to overheating

Samsung Galaxy Tab S - Overheating -1

Last week, we spoke about some units of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S suffering from overheating issues leading to the disfiguring of the plastic back cover. However, Samsung claims that the two issues are separate. In a statement issued by the Korean manufacturer, it is said that the disfiguration is credited to a rare number of back covers.

In its statement, Samsung also urges customers to head over to their nearest Samsung Electronics service center if they come across instances of back panel disfiguration. The company has also partially acknowledged the tablet’s overheating bug last week and has suggested users to return such units.

It’s good to see that Samsung is taking action on affected devices and not simply passing the buck as most manufacturers tend to do these days. The extent of this particular manufacturing defect is unknown at this point, but since Samsung mentions that instances are rare, we’re hoping it’s not affecting a large number of users.

But if you’ve been one of the unlucky users to receive a Galaxy Tab S with the faulty or disfigured back cover, make sure you get in touch with Samsung at the earliest. You can read the entire statement issued by Samsung below:

Contrary to certain media reports, the slight disfiguration that has formed on the rear surface of the Galaxy Tab S has been attributed to a limited number of defective back covers, which has no relation to the overheating of the application processor or the material used for the back cover. We would like to assure our customers that we have already resolved the issue. We ask affected customers to please contact their nearest Samsung Electronics customer service center.”
