Google believed to be closing in on Twitch acquisition for $1 billion

Google has been believed to be in talks with Twitch for a potential acquisition/merger with YouTube. But over the couple of months, reports of the acquisition died down somewhat. However, multiple reports are now confirming that Google has almost finished talks with Twitch and the two parties have reportedly agreed on a sum of $1 billion. This comes after Google denied these rumors a few months ago, so it has certainly taken us by surprise.

Twitch is a widely used video streaming service allowing users to broadcast live content and has certainly rivaled YouTube to a great extent. Its user base has exceeded 50 million as of recently, so it’s only logical for Google to consider a buyout. Either companies are yet to confirm it, but that merely seems like a formality now given what the sources are suggesting. Considering that Google spent $1.65 billion to acquire YouTube in 2006, the $1 billion sum seems justified. Are you a user of Twitch? How do you think this will affect you?
