ASUS has just announced two new smartphones belonging to its very popular PadFone and ZenFone series. Known as the PadFone S and the ZenFone 5 LTE, the two devices will fit in nicely in the company’s product lineup.
The PadFone S is exactly what it sounds like and comes with the proprietary tablet dock accompanied by the smartphone. The device itself features a 5 inch 1080p display, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, Android 4.4 KitKat, 4G LTE, a quad core Snapdragon 801 chipset and a splash proof coating on top as well. The device also supports Qi standard wireless charging by default. The PadFone S has a 2,300 mAh battery inside. The accompanying tablet has a 9 inch display with a 1080p resolution and a front facing camera for video calls along with its own 4,990 mAh battery. The device is expected to cost close to $500 in Taiwan.
The ZenFone 5 LTE is a midrange offering, albeit with LTE support. The device has a 5 inch 720p display, a 1.2 GHz quad core Snapdragon 400 SoC on board, 2GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, a 2,110 mAh battery and Android 4.4 KitKat. The ZenFone 5 LTE is expected to cost close to $234 in Taiwan which is pretty reasonable considering the kind of hardware it packs. We should get a word regarding global availability in the coming weeks, but as of now, the two devices are only available in Taiwan.
