Samsung Gear 2 update brings Blocking Mode, stability improvements

Samsung is pushing out a new update to its Gear 2 smartwatch, a couple of weeks after the company pushed out an update to bring Tizen over to the original Galaxy Gear. The update carries build number and is quite minor at around 20 MB in size, with the only major change being the addition of a Blocking Mode feature for muting all notifications.

Blocking Mode has been a regular feature on Samsung’s smartphones, and has actually been part of the Gear 2 as well, with the smartwatch turning off all notifications when sleep monitoring was active. With the update, users can now decide when Blocking Mode is active – either when the user is sleeping, or all the time according to the parameters set on the connected phone. The update also brings improvements to the S Health app, and like every other update, also enhances general security.

The update can be downloaded from the Gear Manager app on whatever device you have connected with the Gear 2, or from Samsung’s desktop software Kies. It should be available in most countries right away, as unlike smartphones, the software on Samsung’s smartwatches doesn’t really differ based on region and carrier.
