HTC rumored to launch a selfie centric handset in Q4 2014

Smartphone manufacturers pay close attention to the camera sensors they use with their devices. We’ve seen several companies launching camera oriented phones like the Sony Xperia Z2 and the Samsung Galaxy K Zoom, but what about a smartphone which focuses on selfies too? According to a new revelation made by Evleaks, that could soon come to fruition as well. This rumored device will be coming from HTC and will be known as the ‘Eye’ apparently, with AT&T believed to be one of the carriers in the U.S. to get it.

The specifics on the hardware are not available at the moment, but it is said that the handset will break cover by Q4 this year. The current crop of HTC smartphones come with very capable front facing camera sensors, but the Taiwanese manufacturer could take that to another level with the ‘Eye’.

We’re not sure where this device will belong in the company’s handset lineup. Perhaps we’ll see this on the One Max successor which is expected to break cover at around the same time this year. Given the bad time HTC is having, it will have to try out practically everything to come up with a winning combination. And we’re not sure if a selfie centric smartphone is the right way to go.
