Duracell will bring over 100,000 Powermats to Starbucks outlets in the San Francisco Bay area. What this basically means is that users will be able to have their coffee and charge their smartphones while they’re at it using the wireless charging Powermats. This is a good move by Starbucks and it is expected that these Powermats will expand into more regions across the U.S. in the coming months. It is important to note though that the wireless charging technology used here is based on the PMA standard and not Qi.
But users don’t have to worry about owning compatible devices as manufacturers like Samsung, LG, BlackBerry, HTC and ZTE while many devices using Qualcomm chipsets support this wireless charging standard as well.
The President of Duracell, Stassi Anastassov said – “Starbucks is transforming the way consumers get power to their phones, in much the same way it made WiFi a standard amenity in public places. This endeavor is a critical step in Duracell’s vision to make dead battery anxiety a thing of the past.”
