Samsung offering $1.25 million in prize money and goodies as part of its Gear App Challenge

Samsung Gear App Challenge

Samsung has announced the new Gear App Challenge which encourages developers to write apps for the Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo smartwatches. To make the contest more interesting for developers, the company is offering prize money and gifts worth $1.25 million to the best apps.

The Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo run on the Tizen OS while the popular Gear Fit smartwatch features a RTOS (Real-time Operating System), so this will only apply to the larger Gear smartwatches.

This contest will certainly increase the number of available applications on the Gear app store. Pebble did something similar with the Pebble App Challenge last month.

The contest will be held in Brazil, Malaysia, Russia, Singapore, South Korea and the U.S. and will officially kick off on the 8th of May, but will be spread across a few days depending on the region. Winners will be picked from all over the world, so if you think your app has what it takes to take the prize, head over to the source link below to gather more details.
