FireChat app lets you chat with people without a data connection

The FireChat app which recently launched on iOS and made quite a splash is now available for Android users to download as well. This IM client is a tad different from your standard instant messaging app as it allows users to chat with people without needing an internet connection. They call this the “mesh networking technology”.

This basically uses a proximity based connection with a combination of WiFi Direct and Bluetooth to connect with other devices running FireChat and lets you chat that way. It’s quite a novel idea and one which could be used merely as an experiment especially in public when you stumble across a stranger using the same app. The app is very secure in terms of privacy, so that’s not a concern if you’re not looking to share your location details.

If you’re looking to try something new as far as instant messaging clients go, this should be worth a try.
