Download Booster feature from the AT&T and Verizon Galaxy S5 can now be partially enabled

Samsung Download Booster

It was recently discovered that the Download Booster feature is missing from the AT&T, Sprint and Verizon variants of the Samsung Galaxy S5. And now, a partial workaround has surfaced for the AT&T and Verizon variants of the smartphones which allows users to enable the feature. Turns out that this particular feature is only hidden from these two variants and users will have to do some tweaking to unhide it.

All the users have to do is download a custom launcher from the Play Store like Nova and add a shortcut to Download Booster on the homescreen, which will then automatically appear on the status bar as well. This can be achieved by long pressing the homescreen with Nova Launcher running and selecting Shortcuts – Activities – Settings – Download Booster.

However, Droid Life claims that this is only a cosmetic enhancement as it won’t actually increase download speeds like it’s supposed to. Some users at the XDA forums have reportedly had some luck getting increased download speeds on Speedtest and Play Store downloads but not with regular downloads. It is possible that root access might be required to enable this setting completely, which might take a few days from now.

If you’ve tried this trick yourself on an AT&T or Verizon Galaxy S5, let us know how it worked out for you.
