Piriform’s popular PC cleaning utility has just made a jump to a different platform and is now available foe Android devices. CCleaner, which has been in development for over a year now, has recently been launched as a public beta version. Those who want to test drive the app should join the beta testing community over at Google+ first before heading out to the Google Play store.

CCleaner is one of the best cleaning utilities available for the Windows platform and Piriform is bringing it to Android. So what makes it different from the other cleaning apps that free up storage space on Android devices? First, it has a sleek user interface that makes it very easy to use. Second, its reputation as one of the best cleaners for the Windows platform is undeniable.

Key features

  • Optimize – Browser History, Application Cache, Clipboard and more
  • Clean – Call Logs and SMS messages individually, in bulk, by age or by contact
  • Reclaim storage space by quickly removing unwanted applications
  • Monitor your CPU, RAM, storage space and battery levels

Soon to come

  • Process management and RAM cleaning
  • Custom folder cleaning
  • Features for rooted devices

I downloaded the app and took it out for a spin on my smartphone. Surprisingly, the app didn’t need any special permission to run at all which is good. When the app starts you will immediately see your storage space with the option to analyze or clean it. I clicked on analyze         and it took only a few seconds to check my 8GB storage.

Aside from cleaning out unused files, call logs, browser history, and SMS CCleaner also allows users to uninstall apps. While this could also be done by the Android app manager it’s convenient to do it inside this app as soon as you check how much storage space each app is using.

CCleaner also comes with a system info which provides information on CPU and memory usage, disk space, battery level, and temperature.
