Samsung part of Twitter history at the Academy Awards

Ellen Degeneres Self Shot

The 86th Academy Awards function took place yesterday amidst much hype and expectations. And hosting the show was renowned TV star Ellen Degeneres who took the stage with her usual charisma and charm. But what’s making the blogosphere go crazy is the fact that she took a self shot photo of herself and a variety of celebrities, including Bradley Cooper, Channing Tatum, Jennifer Lawrence, Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Kevin Spacey, Lupita Nyong’o, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Academy Award winner for Best Supporting Actor, Jared Leto and many others.

This photo was taken from a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 as Samsung was sponsoring the event. And when news broke out that this picture was the most retweeted photo in Twitter history, Samsung PR obviously took the credit. Some even called it a major win for Samsung to be part of this feat.

Industry rivals Nokia however suggested Ellen to switch to a Lumia in order to avoid blurry images (referencing a different image taken during the event). So this photo will be spoken about for days to come as the retweet count has crossed 2.7 million. Beating Barack Obama’s historic Four more years picture is no small accomplishment anyways.

Here’s a video of the moments that led up to the picture:

  1. I think Samsung deserves to be proud of this event, especially that it was their product who captured the stills.
any vendor would jump at such opportunity in the near future. that was definitely a big boost to Galaxy Note 3.
