On top of revealing some details about the Moto X and its successor, Motorola also announced something else impressive. The Moto G, their $179 smartphone, is the best-selling smartphone in their entire history.
It’s not hard to see why it’s so popular. At $179 off-contract for an 8 GB model and $200 off-contact for a 16 GB model, it’s affordable for nearly everyone. You can even find it for prices as low as $100 on Verizon and Boost Mobile.
During their MWC press dinner, Motorola’s senior vice president of product management, Rick Osterloh, specifically said this about the Moto G. “The Moto G has been the most successful, highest-selling smartphone in Motorola’s history.”
He also said that Motorola also makes a profit off every single Moto G they make and they will continue to make more even after the Lenovo purchase is completed. Other manufacturers should take notice of this and follow Motorola’s lead.
