Intel could be launching mobile chipsets at next week’s MWC event

According to a leaked Intel road map, the company could launch a couple of new mobile chipsets at next week’s MWC event in Barcelona. The document reveals the existence of two new mobile chipsets for smartphones and tablets respectively. One of these is targeted towards standard Windows based tablets, but that isn’t expected to build a lot of interest during the event.

Given Intel’s failure to succeed in the Android industry with its smartphone SoCs, the company will desperately try to make inroads in the smartphone segment with its new offerings. The company was expected to unleash its tablet offerings later this year, including 64-bit chips, so we might get a first glimpse of that as well.

Although we will not see an actual device powered by Intel’s new chipsets at the MWC, the announcement of new chipsets will give us a better idea of what to expect in the coming months. One constraint for Android hardware manufacturers with Intel chips is software support, so until Intel resolves that, we don’t see it making any impact on the Android industry. This is an area where NVIDIA has been left behind as well.
