HTC confirms Boost Mobile One SV is due for Android 4.4 update in April

We don’t often say this, but it sure is a nice day to own an HTC device. Specifically, the Verizon One, getting upgraded to Android 4.4 KitKat as we speak. Or the much less glamorous Boost Mobile One SV, which the company’s US branch yesterday confirmed on Facebook is next in line for KitKat.

Wait, what? So the 4.7-inch 720p, quad-core One X+ is not worthy of looking beyond Jelly Bean, yet the 4.3-inch WVGA, dual-core One SV is? And here’s the kicker: if HTC USA’s FB page manager is correct, the Android 4.4 software package may roll out to the modest mid-ranger (low-ender?) as soon as April.

That’s two months from now, and for all we know, it could be mere weeks after all network-locked One versions score KitKat. Pretty crazy, especially since we’re talking about a handheld available on Boost, a minuscule (no offense) prepaid carrier. Sounds like someone needs to get its priorities straight.

Then again, I realize I’m looking silly complaining of an OEM actually releasing an unexpectedly timely update. So I’ll stop. Let’s just hope the social manager that replied to Tyrell Dunn’s rant didn’t mistake the 4 on his keyboard for a 2. Or 3. Basically, fingers crossed he didn’t mean “we are bringing” 4.2 or 4.3 to the SV in April.

Also, it’d be really nice if HTC would take care of One SV users on Cricket too, as well as international models. And if you’re wondering, yes, the 4.3-incher is still on sale via Boost, for $249.99 contract-free. Not too shabby, eh?

Between this supposed last-minute burst of solid software support, increasingly believable Nexus rumors and M8’s rather neat hardware improvements, it’s almost like HTC is staging a comeback. Could they rise from their own ashes? Tell us what you think in the comments section below.
