VTech Kidizoom Is A Smartwatch Designed For Kids

Adults may have their Samsung Galaxy Gear or Sony SmartWatch but coming soon is a smartwatch that’s designed for kids. VTech, a company known for making kids learning toys, will soon release the VTech Kidizoom which is a smartphone aimed at kids 6 to 12 years old. This device was unveiled at the London Toy Fair 2014.

The VTech Kidizoom not only helps kids tells time but also introduces them to the concept of a smartwatch which is already gaining popularity and usage among consumers.

It uses a 1.4 inch color touchscreen with 20 different types of watch faces to choose from ranging from analog to digital. This makes it highly customizable and fun to wear since kids can change the watch faces anytime they want to.

There’s also a built-in camera that can capture videos and images. The included software allows for basic editing of the videos and photos captured. A USB port allows for the transfer of photos and videos from the device to a computer.

A voice recorder is also included with a “funny voice effects” feature which can be enabled during playback.

A few educational games is also thrown into the mix.

VTech’s Charlotte Johnson said that “We know that firms like Samsung and Sony have already created smart watches for adults, but we want children to be able play their part in the development of this technology.”

“This is about using technology to improve and enhance a simple product like a watch. It will help develop skills that will become important in the future.”

As a product designed for kids this device is built to be robust enough to survive from the occasional bumps and drops.  There’s no information if this device is waterproof but we’re pretty sure that it can withstand a few splashes of water.

Most of the kid-friendly products that we’ve seen released in the market come with a parental control feature which won’t be necessary with this smartwatch. This is because it does not come with any WiFi or data connectivity feature.

The VTech Kidizoom is expected to be released this coming August and will cost £40 or around US$65.
