Samsung Smart Home Service Gets Detailed Ahead Of CES 2014

Samsung is a company known for manufacturing various products from TV sets, refrigerators, cameras, laptops, and smartphones just to name a few. Right now all of their products are used individually and are not linked together. The company however plans to introduce a way where a consumer can control all of these in just one system.

Samsung Smart Home is a system where home appliances and mobile devices are connected under one platform. The company even says that it will be working with third party partners to extend the platform to non-Samsung branded products.

The concept here is that a consumer will be able to control an appliance remotely using a smartphone or tablet. Forgot to turn off the air conditioner at home while you are at the office? This can easily be done through your smartphone. Want to turn on the house lights as you are about to enter your house? Just issue the command on your mobile device.

While his may not be a new idea Samsung might be able to make it popular as it is one of the biggest consumer electronics companies in the world today. The company will be using its own technology called Smart Home software protocol (SHP) which allows connectivity between all Smart Home products as well as products of other manufacturers.

According to Wonpyo Hong, President, Media Solutions Center, Samsung Electronics “With Samsung Smart Home, we are bringing our capabilities as the world’s number-one manufacturer of smart devices to make the connected home a reality for consumers today. In the coming days, we will continue to roll out better home services to our consumers to enable them to keep enjoying a brand-new experience of ‘Smart Living and Beyond’.”

Samsung Smart Home will have three features namely Device Control, Home View and Smart Customer Service.

Device Control allows consumers to use customized settings on their mobile devices or Smart TV to monitor or control home appliances. Lighting, refrigerator, and air-conditioning are just a few that can be controlled remotely. A user will be able to control any of the home appliances from any location.

Home View takes advantage of the built-in cameras in home appliances. Consumers who will use this feature will get a real-time view of what the camera captures. This is a great feature if you are on vacation and you want to see what’s going on inside your home.

Smart Customer Service notifies consumers when an appliance is in need of servicing.

Samsung says that it will initially concentrate on Smart TVs, smartphones, and connected appliances. After this it will then become available to other Samsung products as well as products from other manufacturers.
