Qualcomm Shows Snapdragon 805 Camera Features

Qualcomm’s next generation processor called the Snapdragon 805 was first officially announced in November of last year. The company said that the chip will be able to deliver the highest quality mobile video, gaming, imaging, and graphics experience at 4K resolution. This can be experienced on the device itself or when hooked up to an Ultra HD TV.

The company plans to demo the new processor at CES 2014 and have released videos of three camera features found in this mobile chip. The short videos show off the Chroma Flash, Action Shot and Optizoom features.

Chroma Flash allows consumers to take great looking photos even in low lighting conditions. Have you ever noticed that photos taken with a flash look unnatural? The Chroma Flash feature aims to fix this by taking two photos, one with the flash and one without the flash. Both images are then combined to get the best of both worlds. You will have a photo that has the great lighting of the flash and the pleasing colors of the non-flash.

Optizoom allows the consumer to lock in on a subject that the phone will zoom in to. Even if that subject moves around the phone will automatically adjust its zoom level.

Action Shot allows consumers to lock in on the subject and track it within the frame. Additionally users can also set a line on the screen and if the subject crosses that line the camera will automatically record a video.

When the Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 was first officially announced Murthy Renduchintala, executive vice president, Qualcomm Technologies, said that “Using a smartphone or tablet powered by Snapdragon 805 processor is like having an UltraHD home theater in your pocket, with 4K video, imaging and graphics, all built for mobile. We’re delivering the mobile industry’s first truly end-to-end Ultra HD solution, and coupled with our industry leading Gobi LTE modems and RF transceivers, streaming and watching content at 4K resolution will finally be possible.”

Some of the features of this processor include

  • Krait 450 quad-core CPU, the first mobile CPU to run at speeds of up to 2.5 GHz per core, plus superior memory bandwidth support of up to 25.6 GB/second
  • New Adreno 420 GPU supports advanced 4K rendering
  • Fast connected mobile experience using either the Qualcomm Gobi MDM9x25 or the Gobi MDM9x35 modem
  • Ability to stream more video content at higher quality using less power
  • Sharper, higher resolution photos in low light and advanced post-processing features
