Panasonic to re-enter the smartphone business: Report

Panasonic LogoNot too long ago, Panasonic bowed out of the smartphone industry citing poor sales and not enough demand for its devices. However, it seems like the company could be making a small comeback as soon as next month, as it is being reported that the Japanese manufacturer will be showcasing a new smartphone at the MWC 2014 event in Barcelona in February.

It is being said that this new smartphone won’t target the average consumer. From what we can make of these reports, it seems like Panasonic is going for a sturdy industrial grade smartphone much like what we see from manufacturers like JCB in Europe. This smartphone from Panasonic will reportedly be shock resistant and will feature a standard 5 inch display panel, with no word on the resolution or other hardware attributes at this point.

It is further believed that Panasonic is already in talks with American construction firms to market the device in the region. However, nothing is confirmed at this point and we’re going simply by a report, but we can expect to learn more during the MWC event next month.
