Google will drop the Nexus line by 2015 in favor of GPE devices: Rumor

Nexus 5

If a new rumor is to be believed, 2015 will mark the arrival of the last of the Nexus devices coming from Google. This rumor from renowned Russian tech expert Eldar Murtazin claims that Google will not launch any Nexus devices in 2015 and the lineup will be replaced by GPE or Google Play Edition devices instead.

If true, this could effectively mean that the Nexus 6 and the 2014 Nexus 7 will be the last of the Nexus devices coming from Google, which is a bit hard to fathom to be honest. Knowing how successful the Nexus line has been for Google, especially since the Nexus 4 was launched, it would be foolish to ditch the lineup in favor of the expensive GPE variants. So take this rumor with a grain of salt for the time being.

The rumor claims that Google will look to ditch the Nexus line so as to keep manufacturers of GPE smartphones/tablets like Samsung, LG, HTC and Sony happy as the Google Play Edition devices haven’t performed well given the steep pricing. But will Google actually take such a drastic step so as to please its favorite Android OEMs? We hope not.
