Google has Acquired Bitspin, the Makers of ‘Timely Alarm Clock’ App for Android

Do you use or have wanted to use Timely, the popular Android Alarm clock app?  Well, there’s some news, BitSpin – the guys that make this app – just got acquired by Google.  Timely has won accolades as one of the most finely designed apps on Google Play.  With a rating of 4.4 stars and over 5 million downloads since it was made available on Google Play.  BitSpin is the same team that came up with the Tasks to-do app available on Google Play.  It is based in Zurich.

The announcement was made by Bitspin earlier today.  It read:

“We’re thrilled to announce that Bitspin is joining Google, where we’ll continue to do what we love: building great products that are delightful to use.

For new and existing users, Timely will continue to work as it always has. Thanks to everyone who has downloaded our app and provided feedback along the way; we truly appreciate all your support.”

There aren’t much details about the acquisition and Google hasn’t made any announcements or comments about the deal and it is unclear whether Google actually purchased Bitspin company as a whole or only the Timely App only.

Well, what we are sure of is that we will continue to use Timely, but it is unlikely we will be seeing any major updates or developments in the near future, if ever.  The good news I should emphasize is that the features and content that were locked for pro users are now free – so you get to use different sounds, themes and even challenges.

According to 9 to 5 Google, Google probably acquired Bitspin because of the superb design of the app, something that meets ‘Google’s vision’.  This may not be the last time we read Bitspin and Google in the same sentence, we hope they will bring their great design ideas to Google’s apps in the future.
