Verizon Galaxy S III Gets I535VRUCML1 OTA Update, Brings Android 4.3, Galaxy Gear Support

Verizon’s Samsung Galaxy S III might be an old device in today’s standards but that doesn’t mean that the network has stopped supporting it. A new over-the-air (OTA) update has just been released for this device which brings among many things Android 4.3 as well as Galaxy Gear support.

Update   I535VRUCML1 is now live and Verizon owners of the device can start checking their units if it is already available.  This update might be delayed as other networks such as AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint already released it previously, but still it is a welcomed development.

Here are some of the key changes brought by this update.


  • Media Backup in Backup Assistant is no longer available
  • Capability to move apps from internal memory to SD
  • Camera now supports ‘Sound & Shot’
  • Video sharing simultaneously across 4 devices with Group Play
  • Enhanced Multi Window
  • Music player now accessible from the lock screen
  • Location settings completed checkbox has been removed from Setup Wizard
  • More Bluetooth Smart Accessories supported
  • Accessories include heart rate monitors, pedometers and thermometers
  • Roaming on the TELUS Network in Canada has been added


  • Upgraded to Jelly Bean 4.3
  • Starter Mode has been renamed to Easy Mode

App Renaming

  • Samsung Link (formerly AllShare Play)
  • Easy Mode (formerly Starter Mode)
  • Screen Mirroring (formerly Allshare Cast)
  • Samsung Hub (consolidated from Media & Music)


  • Isis Wallet App; Premium SMS popup no longer appears when app is authenticated
  • Call Settings: Personalize your call sound has been added to call screen, • Extra volume button is now located above the End button on the call screen, Noise reduction icon is now a toggle button on the call screen
  • Lock Screen Settings
  • Notifications: Notification Panel Grid view has been added, Quick Setting List is now editable

Bug Fixes

  • Customer name is now displayed correctly when calling voicemail callback number
  • 3-way calling now possible while roaming on Bluegrass Cellular
  • Voicemail prompt displays properly
  • Notification sound for email has been addressed
  • “No Sim Card” notification fixed
  • Text messaging application does not close when composing a message
