Oppo R1 Gets Official, Costs CNY2498 ($410)

After weeks of rumors and speculation Oppo has finally officially announced and released the Oppo R1. Despite not having high-end specs it has one feature that stands out and that is its ability to take great photos. Its 8MP rear camera has a wide aperture of F2.0 allowing great shots to be taken even in low lighting conditions. As a comparison the Nokia Lumia 1020 which takes amazing photos only has an aperture of F2.2 ( the lower the number the better).

 Technical Specifications

  • Dimensions: 142.7mm x 70.4mm x 7.1mm
  • Weight: 140g
  • OS: Color OS based on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean
  • Display: 5-inch IPS display, 1280 x 720 at 294 PPI
  • CPU: MediaTek MT6582 quad-core processor at 1.3GHz
  • GPU: PowerVR SGX544
  • RAM: 2 GB
  • Internal memory: 16 GB
  • Camera: 5MP front-facing camera, 8MP rear shooter
  • Battery: 2,410 mAh battery

The device has decent specifications capable of providing a smooth user experience. Its choice of OS is Color OS which, while is not stock Android, is not too heavy.

One thing that we didn’t like is the unavailability of a microSD port. This means that you are stuck with just 16GB of storage space. Those who love to install numerous apps and games know that this space can be consumed quickly. The only way to get more storage space is to subscribe to any of the popular cloud storage providers.

The Oppo R1 is now available unlocked at the company online store for CNY2498 ($410). There is still no information if this device will be launched in markets outside of China.

Those living in the US who wants to try out an Oppo device may want to wait for the Oppo N1 which is expected to be released on Christmas Eve. The device sports a 6 inch display and will be running on CyanogenMod.  It’s going to be available as an unlocked GSM/HSPA+ model over at Amazon.
