DROID Maxx, Ultra, and Mini KitKat update reportedly bricking devices, rollout halted

Verizon DROID Trio Android 4.4 Update

The Android 4.4 KitKat update for Verizon’s DROID Ultra, DROID Maxx, and DROID Mini started rolling out on December 19th, but fast forward to today, and it seems most users are yet to receive the update on their devices. An official word hasn’t been handed out, but the update has reportedly been pulled from circulation due to some serious issues, including one that is bricking phones for some users.

Motorola is reportedly working with members of its Feedback Network program to sort out the issue – considering the first phase of the rollout is only for soak test members, it’s possible the issue hasn’t affected most users, which could be the reason why neither Motorola nor Verizon haven’t felt the need to make an official statement on the matter yet. However, the bricking issue should act as a warning sign to the Google-owned company – it’s great that they’re pushing out updates to new Android versions so quickly after Google announces them, but perhaps it would be a good idea to take just a bit more time in testing these updates, especially those that are pushed to carrier variants.
