The decision of TCL to include a wristband with a Bluetooth chip may mean that the company is also planning to release its own smartwatch model in the future. Several Android manufacturers have already been releasing companion watches for smartphones such as Samsung’s Galaxy Gear and Sony’s SmartWatch. The BoomBand is a good way for TCL to test out the market and offering it as a companion device will surely draw interest to the Idol X+.

The folks over at TCL say that this is the first device to use a 2 GHz version of MediaTek’s MT6592 octa-core processor courtesy of an exclusive deal reached by both companies. The other specifications of the Idol X+ includes

  • 5-inch 1080p IPS display
  • 1.9mm bezel
  • 2GB of RAM
  • 16GB of internal storage
  • 13-megapixel f/2.0 rear camera
  • 2,500mAh battery
  • 7.9mm thin

In comparison here are the specifications of the Idol X

  • 1.5GHz Quad-core MediaTek MT6589 processor
  • 5-inch 1080p IPS display
  • 2 GB RAM
  • 16GB of internal storage
  • 13-megapixel autofocus rear camera
  • 2,000mAh battery
  • 6.9mm thin

In terms of performance the Idol X+ is more than two times faster than its predecessor. It’s also a bit thicker owing to the higher capacity battery that it uses.

This device is going to be available in the Chinese market with an unsubsidized price of CNY1,999 or approximately $330 and will go on sale this coming January 15. There is still no information if this will become available in the international market.
