Unofficial Android 4.4 ROM now available for the LG Optimus G

LG Optimus G

The LG Optimus G has now received a custom made Android 4.4 ROM suited to run on the smartphone. Earlier last week, we saw the ROM making its way to the Nexus 4, Nexus 7 and even the Galaxy Nexus, so its pleasing to see the ROM making its way to a non-Nexus device as well. The Optimus G was the reference design for the LG Nexus 4, but there’s no clarity on whether the smartphone will get the Android 4.4 update officially from LG, so this might be the users’ only hope in having a bite of KitKat before most of the world does.

Credit must be given to XDA user houstonn who has posted this ROM image by working on the AOSP based Android 4.4 ROM. It’s pretty much what we see on the Nexus 5, with some visible differences. If you’re adventurous enough to get this ROM working on your smartphone, head over to the source link below to download the ROM and make sure you have root access. The Optimus G features a decent specs sheet and shares most of its hardware with the Nexus 4, so compatibility is not really an issue.
