MediaTek announces the MT6592 “true octa core” chipset

MediaTekMediaTek has been prepping the launch of its true octa core chip for quite some time now, and the chipset has been finally made official today by the Chinese manufacturer. The chipset will be known as the MediaTek MT6592 and will be capable of running all eight cores simultaneously, unlike Samsung’s Exynos 5 Octa chip. The chipset will reportedly strike a perfect balance between efficiency and performance despite being capable of running all eight cores at up to 2 GHz. MediaTek claims that the new chipset will bring support for 4K video and conversion of 30fps videos to 60fps.

MediaTek has already started sending samples to manufacturers and we can expect devices to launch this year in the markets, although most of them will be probably limited to China. It will be good to have a low cost chipset like this launching on global smartphones as well, which will certainly increase competition among major companies like Samsung and LG which rely on Qualcomm’s offerings for a bulk of its flagships.
