ViewSonic Launches $499 24” Android Smart Display VSD241 AIO PC with Tegra 3 CPU

ViewSonic has today introduced the VSD241 Smart Display system which is essentially an All-In-One PC running on Android and powered by NVIDIA’s Tegra 3 processor.  This Android computer with Android 4.2 is not the first to enter the market of late, Acer announced its DA241HL AIO desktop just last month (September) and just two weeks ago, Lenovo finally unveiled IdeaPad A10, their first – and the world’s first – truly Android laptop running on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean as well.

SonicSmart VSD241

ViewSonic VSD241 Smart Display is a 24-inch self-contained smart display based on Android that the maker promises will deliver a blazing fast performance, thanks to its quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 CPU and perhaps the unspecified RAM, which we all know greatly influences the performance of a device.  The smart display boasts of a full HD 1920 x 1080 pixels display and provides access to the Google Play Store just like all the Android smartphones, phablets, tablets, smartwatches and cameras just to mention the most popular.

Although it was designed to be a stand-alone display running Android, the VSD241 smart display comes with a HDMI port to connect the device to a traditional computer, it has Wi-Fi, 2 (full) USB, 1 miniUSB and 1 microUSB ports, Bluetooth and Ethernet connectivity options as well as a 2.1 rear and 2 megapixels front cameras – the front optimized as a webcam for video calls and conferences.  This display is designed to be a perfect desktop companion except that it is not as bulky and has the benefits and features of most tablets including touchscreen capability.

ViewSonic has loaded a ‘dual point optical touch for intuitive operation’ system that makes the device provide a tablet-like browsing experience.  It has a rear foldable and adjustable stand that could easily transform this beautiful device into a display only or a home computer.  ViewSonic is marketing the SonicSmart VSD241 as an ideal business solution – most likely to use in a kiosk or POS– but it can also be a great device to have at home or in the office.  ViewSonic promises ‘the best possible desktop experience for Android stand-alone usage, cloud connectivity, and remote desktop capabilities’.  Other core specs and features of ViewSonic’s SonicSmart VSD241 worth mentioning include VESA wall mount capabilities, dual rear speakers and an SD card slot.

If you are impressed by the ViewSonic SonicSmart VSD241, you can get it now in US and Canada for $499 – but we cannot really tell you whether it is a steal, just right or steep because we do not know what other important specs and features it has such as RAM, memory size options, processor clock speed and internal memory available to users.

Anyway, ViewSonic says that there is a line of such products that will be coming to the market soon including the 24 inch SD-A245 and the 22 inch SD-A225 that have a Citrix XenMobile platform integration and the VSD221, a 22 inch Android All-In-One system set to come in December for $399.
