About a week ago, it was reported that some units of the Samsung Galaxy S4 in Europe were facing issues with a swollen battery. Samsung has now acknowledged this issue confirming the legibility of those claims and is also offering free replacement for affected handsets. Luckily for Samsung, the issue can only be seen in a few batches of the European Galaxy S4. In a statement issued to Trusted Reviews, Samsung claims – “We are aware of this issue, which has affected a limited number of customers. We ask all affected customers to please visit their nearest Samsung Electronics service centre, where they can receive a replacement battery for free of charge. We remain committed to providing the best possible user experience for our customers.”
It’s good to see Samsung acknowledging the issue rather than simply passing the buck. For the time being, the issue seems to be limited to European variants with a high frequency of complaints coming from Germany. Apart from the obvious swelling, the affected batteries drain extremely quickly after a full charge. So if you’re facing either of these problems on your Galaxy S4, head over to the nearest Samsung store to claim a replacement battery.
