The Samsung Galaxy Gear has struggled to win appreciation from Samsung fans for the obvious reason that it’s not compatible with most devices. The $300 pricing hasn’t done the smartwatch a lot of favors either. Now a new report suggests that the returns rate for the Galaxy Gear smartwatch has been pretty high in Best Buy stores. Figures estimate over 30% returns rate for the smartwatch, which has raised some serious concerns for Samsung. While Samsung has been stressing on selling it as a bundle with the Galaxy Note 3, customers haven’t been properly educated regarding its functionality, so it’s clear that owners of other Samsung devices probably thought it would work with the Galaxy S III or the Galaxy Note II smartphone.
However, an update to all the recent flagships from 2012 and 2013 will finally bring compatibility with the Galaxy Gear smartwatch, but we fear it’s too little too late. Samsung could have done wonders with the smartwatch if the compatibility was present right at launch, instead of promising future compatibility. With the Android 4.3 update slowly rolling out to older devices, we can expect Samsung to start a new marketing campaign for the Galaxy Gear smartwatch.
