Samsung bringing Galaxy Gear support to eight smartphones

Galaxy Gear

The Samsung Galaxy Gear has been very limited in its support, but that is set to change soon as the company has announced support with eight Samsung smartphones. As of now, the smartwatch is only compatible with the Galaxy Note 3, and we got a feeling that it had a lot to do with Bluetooth 4.0 LE which is a default feature with Android 4.3 update brings. And that’s exactly the case as Samsung will be bringing Galaxy Gear compatibility to eight older Samsung smartphones including the Galaxy S4, through the Android 4.3 update. So it depends heavily on when Samsung will roll out the update to its lineup of devices. The eight devices include the Galaxy S III, the Galaxy S4, the Galaxy S4 Mini, the Galaxy S4 Active, the Galaxy S4 Zoom, the Galaxy Note II, the Galaxy Mega 6.3 and the Galaxy Mega 5.8.

While the likes of the Galaxy S4 and the Galaxy Note II might receive the Android 4.3 update relatively soon, midrange handsets like the Galaxy Mega 6.3 and 5.8 might have to wait until the end of the year to get the update. The same theory will apply to the Galaxy S4 Mini and the Galaxy S4 Zoom. So while Samsung does promise Galaxy Gear support to most of its recent handsets, it could take several months to materialize.
