Rumors in the past have suggested that Google could be working on a smartwatch like device. And new reports from the Wall Street Journal gives weight to those claims. According to the report, this smartwatch could be launched in the “months ahead” which could probably mean in about 4-5 months from now. Google is reportedly in talks with Asian manufacturers (we’re guessing Samsung, LG or HTC) to mass produce this smartwatch. The report further reiterates old claims that the smartwatch will be based on Google Now, which is Android’s premier information hub giving users access to all the information they need including real time sports scores, traffic, directions, birthdays, reminders etc. To have something like this on a watch would be certainly remarkable.
In all likelihood, this smartwatch should and will make the Samsung Galaxy Gear pretty obsolete, as this will probably not have limited compatibility while pricing should be pretty decent too. However, this is still a rumor for the time being with no proof of its existence, so we’ll wait till there’s any concrete details available. But the idea of a Google Now based smartwatch certainly sounds interesting and we hope it comes to fruition soon.
