Google Hangouts gets SMS integration and video call improvements

Google Hangouts

The ‘Morning With Google+‘ event has gotten off to a good start as the folks have announced an all new Hangouts app which will now be integrated with SMS and will bring features like location sharing, GIF support, changes to Hangouts broadcasting as well as other video improvements. Location sharing is basically a simple button right within the app to share the user’s whereabouts. The SMS integration was spoken about in a previous leak as well and while we expected it to be a default feature with Android 4.4, it seems like the changes will take effect before that. We can expect Google to rollout an update to the Hangouts app on Android and iOS in the coming days.

Hangouts On Air was shown off which will bring some nifty tools to manage and plan Hangouts in advance. It also comes with a dedicated page so that users can make necessary changes within the Hangout. This basically allows users to manage or even promote Hangouts. Hangouts Video has also received some much needed improvements in the form of full screen video calling and default HD video for all users. Hangouts Video will also come with the ability to blur out the background along with a separate black and white mode. This will also bring some new tools which makes auto adjustments to the videos to make it look less dark, which is a cool feature to have by default.
