A couple of hours ago, an official Sony Xperia Z1 introduction press release leaked and was published by the folks at Xperiablog. The press release is the final sign of a device that has dominated the rumors sections of blogs globally will be coming in just a few hours. Sony has plans to fully unveil the Xperia Z1 Honami phablet tomorrow and the press release highlights some of the most anticipated features although there is nothing new really, almost everything has been rumored before. This doesn’t mean there’s no new info though, if you are looking forward to buying the Honami or are just a curious fanatic, there are a few bits of new information about the device.
As a recap, let’s go over the specs of Sony’s next flagship smartphone: it comes with a 5 inch full HD 1080 x 1980 pixels resolution TFT screen with a Triluminous display as well as Sony’s X-Reality, just like the Xperia Ultra. Like its predecessor the Xperia Z, the Xperia Z1 will be water resistant, only that it is rated higher at IP55/IP58 unlike Xperia Z’s IP55/IP57.
Sony Xperia Z1 Honami will have a 2.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor with Adreno 330 graphics and will have 2 GB of RAM to complement it, not 3 GB as many rumors had indicated awhile back. The press release indicates that Sony will be launching a Sony Xperia Z1 with 16 GB of internal memory with a microSD card slot but it did not mention whether there will be an 8 GB or 32 GB version of the device.
The smartphone also boasts of a 20 megapixels rear camera with an Exmor RS CMOS image sensor, Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and a 3,000 mAh battery. The handset will be available in black, white and purple colors and it will hit the shelves globally within the month (yes, during September). A leaked promotional copy earlier showed that Sony intends to give free Sony Smartwatches to those who pre-order the Z1 in the UK, we hope the promotion will come this far though.
